applications, what is the acceptance
criteria based upon?

applications to be considered
for a MARC Travel Award.

What is a
MARC Student?
 |
A
MARC Student is a student who is
participating and receiving
funding throughout the year from
her/his educational institution's MARC Program.

Am I eligible
to receive a travel award from the FASEB
MARC Program if I have been awarded a
travel award from another sponsoring
society?
 |
You may NOT accept both awards.
You must decide which award you
want to accept and decline the
other.
|

Q. |
Can I rent a
car to drive as another means of
transportation as a MARC Travel Awardee?
 |
No, you may not rent a car. The
FASEB MARC Program is funded
through a generous grant from
The National Institute of
General Medical Sciences and the
National Institutes of Health.
The grant stipulates that we may
not allow rental car expenses to
be reimbursed. If you wish to do
so, it will be at your own
expense.

As a
faculty/mentor applicant, do I have to
bring a student to attend the meeting or
can I attend on my own?
 |
To receive funding for
attendance to any of our
National Scientific Meetings, a
faculty/mentor must
nominate 1-2 students (maximum)
to bring to the meeting in which
they are applying for.
Faculty/Mentors may not attend
on their own.

If I am a
federal government employee, am I
eligible for FASEB MARC funding?
 |
No, you may not apply to the
FASEB MARC Program for funding
to any of our programs.
|

Q. |
How many
travel awards do you give out to each
institution?
 |
This number depends on the
volume of requests, as well as
our yearly budget. First priority
will always go to anyone
presenting "a poster" or giving
an oral presentation. In the event of a large number of applications are received for a particular meeting, we will limit Poster/Oral Presenter
awards to four (4) per
institution. Faculty/Student
applications will only be
considered if additional funds
are available, and we will only
fund a maximum of two (2)
students and one (1) mentor per
application. There will be
NO
exceptions.

Can I fax
travel award applications, or do you
need the originals sent?
 |
You may fax travel award
applications to our office with
all required supporting
documentation; however, you will
need to mail (email or USPS) the originals as
well.

What groups
qualify as underrepresented minorities?
 |
According to the National
Institute of General Medical
Sciences and The National
Institutes of Health, qualified
minority groups that are
groups that have been identified as being underrepresented in the
biomedical and behavioral
sciences. The groups include: African Americans,
Alaskan Natives, Hispanic
Americans, Native Americans and
Natives of the U.S. Pacific
Islands (Hawai'i and Guam.)

If I was
awarded a FASEB MARC Travel Award, but
my abstract was not accepted, can I
still accept the award and attend the
meeting in which I applied for?
 |
No. The FASEB MARC
Poster/Oral Presenter Travel
Awards are contingent upon
acceptance of your abstract
for presentation at the meeting
by the program committe of the sponsoring
society/societies. In addition, you
must be the first author of the
poster and actually present at
the meeting to be eligible for
reimbursement.

May a student
apply for a FASEB MARC Travel award and
attend the meeting on their own?
 |
The only way a student can
receive a FASEB MARC Travel award and attend a meeting without a
mentor is if the student is
applying for and receives a Poster/Oral
Presenter Travel Award and
presenting her/his research at the
meeting.

Can the FASEB
MARC Program advance travel award funds?
 |
It is not the practice of the
FASEB MARC Program to advance
ANY travel award funds.

Does the
FASEB MARC Program pay stipends?
 |
No, we do not pay any stipends
or indirect costs.

Q. |
I currently
live outside of the U.S., but I am a
U.S. Citizen. Am I eligible to apply for
a FASEB MARC Travel Award to attend one
of your National Scientific Meetings?
 |
In order for you to be eligible
to apply for a FASEB MARC Travel
Award, you must reside in the
U.S. at the time of application
submittal. In addition, you must
be a U.S. Citizen or Non-Citizen
National of the U.S. or must
have been lawfully admitted to
the U.S. for permanent residence
and have a permanent visa at
time of application submittal.
Individuals on temporary or
student visas are not eligible
for MARC funding.
